Waiting
By: Bonnie Bollman

Nine months of waiting
Of planning,
Of anticipation,
Of waiting,
And then one day,
They laid you in my arms,
Depending on me for nurture
For care,
For life itself.

You grew; Your wants grew,
But still,
In your independence,
You looked to me
For guidance:
You trusted me
To be there.

My child,
Flesh of my flesh,
I loved you, prayed for you
But one day
I had to release you
To make you own decisions,
To trust God
Or reject Him
To stride forth boldly,
To stumble or fall
Remember, Child,
I love you, God loves you
We can only wait and watch
With outstretched arms
Pleading, silently,
My child, come home!
